Four ?40-something and Boomer-friendly? job search tips to increase your marketability and career success

Finding a job after 40 can take longer but don?t get discouraged. Anyone over 40 can have success if they incorporate some alternative search methods, revise their resume, and employ some new interview techniques.? Here are four job search tips for success after 40:

1-??? Revise your r?sum? to be ?age-friendly? by emphasizing skills, technology, achievements, and ongoing training over longevity and length of experience.

• Downplay your age on your resume by eliminating dates of graduation and only going back 10 years for your work experience. Limit the r?sum? to 2 pages.
• Position yourself as an ideal fit for the job you?re applying to by creating a Branded R?sum?. This is a resume style that is focused for a particular type of job as opposed to a generic catch-all type document.
• Emphasize your experience with technology by listing all computer and software programs you are familiar with, and especially list your social media URLs (or add buttons) to you r?sum?. This conveys that you are up-to-speed with Web 2.0 tools and have kept up with technology?BIG.
• List key skills, accomplishments, and problems solved?giving concrete examples?as they relate to a certain type of position. Show how you contributed to the bottom line.? Add an Ongoing Training section to the resume and show current and recent classes. This shows you?re keeping your skills up-to-date.

2-??? Employ new methods for uncovering positions.

• Most jobs go unadvertised, so utilize your network to arrange coffees, lunches, phone calls or meetings, so you can convey what your job search goals are.
• Be specific and able to explain precisely how you can help an organization (create a 30 second branding statement).
• By contacting companies of interest proactively and utilizing you network to uncover unadvertised positions, you can greatly reduce the level of competition and increase your chances of reaching a hiring manager.

3-??? Project a contemporary image, speak with confidence, show energy, and emphasize modern skills during the job interview.

• Image is everything. Dress for success and wear something contemporary. A look through the Macy?s or Nordstrom?s web site will give an idea on what?s ?in? in terms of business fashion.
• Show energy and enthusiasm and be aware of body language.
• Describe situations when you worked with or for a younger leader, mention your attendance record and tenure with certain companies.
• Discuss how you use technology professionally (Mac, MS Office programs, etc.) and even personally (Facebook, smartphone, iPhone) and what bloggers you like to follow for up to date industry and occupational information. Mentioning familiarity with social media sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook will have a major positive impact.

4-??? Focus on industries and occupations that welcome older workers.

Healthcare, higher education, and government agencies all have higher-than-average percentages of older workers.

Self Wins Naismith Coach of Year

It's the second coach of the year honor for Self. He also was honored by The Sporting News. Missouri coach Frank Haith was named coach of the year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and The Associated Press.

"Winning the award today, I went over there for breakfast today," Self said. "It's a cool award. It was great to win it, all that stuff. But there's a lot of coaches out there deserving of winning awards. All that is a reflection of your team playing well.

"I appreciate, but I don't put a lot of stock into thinking that I've done something others haven't. There's been a lot of coaches that coached their teams very, very well."

Only two coaches have reached the national championship game. During Sunday's Final Four press conference with Self and KU's five starters, point guard Tyshawn Taylor called his coach a "great teacher."

"His system works," Taylor said. "I think what made this team so good all year is that most of the time we bought in and we listened and we actually paid attention to what he said, wanted to come out there and play."

Taylor said he agreed with Self winning Coach of the Year.

"Congratulations, Coach, good job," Taylor said.

Self smiled and said, "Thanks. You're still going to start tomorrow. I'm still going to take your butt out if you don't make a shot."

New Orleans (April 1, 2012) ? University of Kansas head coach Bill Self was named the 2012 Naismith Men?s College Basketball Coach of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. This accolade makes Kansas the only university to have three different Naismith Men?s College Coach of the Year winners, as Self joins 1988 winner Larry Brown and 1997 winner Roy Williams.

Self edged out finalists Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), John Calipari (Kentucky) and Frank Haith (Missouri) to win the most prestigious national award presented annually to the top men?s college basketball coach.

Self was selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club?s National Voting Academy, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The academy based its criteria on coaching performances this season. The vote was tabulated and certified by the accounting firm of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP. HA&W is the largest independent accounting firm in Georgia and one of the top 50 firms in the United States.

?Bill has done a remarkable coaching job this season and deserves all the accolades that come his way,? said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. ?There?s always something special about adding another chapter of Kansas Basketball to the Naismith Awards family.?

In his ninth season at Kansas, Self led the Jayhawks to a 31-7 record, including a perfect 16-0 at home, leading them to a record eighth straight regular season Big 12 Title and earning his second consecutive Big 12 Coach of the Year award. He owns a 269-52 record at the school and a 476-157 overall career record, including a national championship with the Jayhawks in 2008.

?This is a terrific honor. When you think of postseason awards, anything that has (James) Nasmith?s name in front of it is a huge award and certainly I?m very proud of this,? Self said. ?It is a reflection of how our team performed all year long. There are so many good coaches out there to choose from but I am honored they picked me.?

Entering the 2012 NCAA Men?s Division I tournament as a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, the Jayhawks defeated No. 1 seed North Carolina and No. 2 seed Ohio State to reach their second NCAA Championship game in four years.

Earlier this week, a fully loaded Brinks truck carrying between $3 million and $5 million in uncirculated loonies and toonies crashed on a snow covered highway in Ontario, Canada. The truck crossed the centre line and slammed into a rock, launching the coins in every direction. The accident is an unfortunate event, but can serve as an analogy about today?s fragile fiat currencies.

The current financial system serves as a global high-speed economic highway that is filled with many obstacles, including debt, bubbles and politics. Being the world?s reserve currency, the U.S. dollar is the truck that is one good bump away from losing control and crashing, causing a chaotic financial wreck. The U.S. official national debt now stands at over $15.6 trillion, representing about $140,000 per taxpayer. The record debt amount continues to increase as Washington gridlock is stronger than ever. The debt ceiling, which was raised last August to $16.394 trillion and initially expected to last well into 2013, is now estimated by Zero Hedge to be reached in September of this year. When Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, was recently asked how much he would raise the debt ceiling if given only one more request, he responded, ?No idea.? After $20 trillion and $50 trillion were floated as ideas, he finally conceded, ?It would be a lot. It would make you uncomfortable.? The dire situation in Washington and the dollar is causing states to prepare for a bumpy road ahead.

In a bill that advanced on Tuesday, South Carolina residents would be able to use gold and silver coins as currency. The measure was approved by the House Judiciary Committee and would allow people to use both precious metals as money, as long as businesses agree to accept them. Under the bill, gold and silver coins in the state would also be exempt from any sales tax, an action that presidential candidate Ron Paul has long advocated. Eliminating sales and capital gains taxes on gold and silver are key steps to returning precious metals back to a normal currency role. Last year, Utah became the first state in the country to legalize gold and silver coins as currency. The Utah law also exempts the sale of the coins from state capital gains taxes.

As more states and individuals prepare for future turmoil, Washington continues to look for more ways to abuse the nation?s currency. Geithner is currently trying to receive congressional permission to strip copper and other valuable metals from pennies and nickels. He told a House Appropriations Committee this week, ?Currently, the costs of making the penny and the nickel are more than twice the face value of each of those coins,? according to Philly.com. Since 1982, pennies are mostly made from zinc and only contain about 2.5 percent copper. Meanwhile, the nickel is composed of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel. Geithner hopes that minting changes ?will save more than $75 million? per year, starting next year. The U.S. nickel has not contained any silver since 1945 and silver was completely removed from quarters and dimes in 1965.

Although met with criticism, some governments are willing to eliminate certain circulated coins altogether. The Canadian government announced in its budget on Thursday it will withdraw its penny from circulation this year, hoping to save around $11 million annually. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said, ?Pennies take up too much space on our dressers at home. They take up far too much time for small businesses trying to grow and create jobs,? according to Bloomberg. That may be true, but the move also helps to hide the debasement of currencies from the public.

While elevated gold and silver prices flash a warning light to governments and fiat currencies worldwide, the signal is ignored by many. Investors looking to protect and diversify themselves against the current global financial system should strongly consider deploying gold and silver airbags. Individuals not willing to purchase gold and silver may want to consider picking up some U.S. nickels, while they still contain copper.

Kyle Bass, the Hayman Capital fund manager who correctly predicted the credit bubble, is a big believer in gold, platinum and nickels. In Michael Lewis? latest book, Boomerang, Bass explained that he purchased a million dollars? worth of nickels, totaling twenty million nickels. Bass explained, ?I?m telling you, in the next two years they?ll change the content of the nickel. You really out to call your bank and buy some now.?

Audi plans used car business in India, expands in small towns

German luxury carmaker Audi is planning to foray into the used car business in India as it expects a sizeable business among the potential luxury car owners, who cannot afford a new model.

The company is also expanding its footprint in small towns in the country with the inauguration of the company's agency in Nagpur, reports The Times Of India.

Audi India chief Michael Perschke was quoted by the newspaper as saying that used cars could be made available at around half the on-road price of new cars.

"So far, used car business in this segment is dominated by traders, but buyers may find a better bargain if original manufacturer refurbishes cars and sells with a warranty," Perschke said.

The Audi chief expects a supply of almost 1,500 used Audi cars in this market, which is around 18% of its present market of over 7,500 cars in the country.

The Audi's used car business is targeted at the upper middle class buyers.

Audi's Nagpur agency is expected to sell around 12-15 cars a month, while the company is also planning showrooms in Bhopal, Coimbatore and Delhi West by April.
