HBT: Mets increase their offer to ace Dickey

After agreeing to an eight-year, $138 million extension with third baseman David Wright earlier this week, the Mets have turned their attention to 2012 Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Talks have progressed slowly until now, but ESPN?s Buster Olney reports that the Mets have increased their offer.

No word on the specifics of the new offer, but Dickey is said to be willing to accept a two-year extension which would run through 2015. Olney notes that the Mets were ?stunned? by Andy Pettitte?s one-year, $12 million contract with the Yankees and it?s possible the deal could be used as a comparable for Dickey because of his age. Some have speculated that the 38-year-old knuckleballer could be looking at a deal similar to Jake Peavy?s recent two-year, $29 million extension with the White Sox.

The Mets have also discussed trade possibilities involving Dickey in case the two sides fail to come to an agreement. CBS Sports? Jon Heyman reported earlier this week that the Royals have expressed interest, though they aren?t willing to give up catcher Salvador Perez or top prospect outfielder Wil Myers.

MEXICO CITY (AP) ? The party that ruled Mexico for seven decades returns to power Saturday with a president from a new generation to govern a country that has changed dramatically in the 12 years since the Institutional Revolutionary Party last held the top post.

Enrique Pena Nieto will take the oath of office after campaigning as the face of a new PRI ? a party that claims to be repentant and reconstructed after being voted out of the presidency in 2000. The PRI ruled for 71 years with a mix of populist handouts, graft and rigged elections.

Pena Nieto has promised to govern democratically with transparency. But his first moves even before the inauguration showed a solid link to the past.

In announcing his Cabinet on Friday, he turned to the old guard as well as new technocrats to run his administration.

"I don't think there is any such thing as a 'new PRI,'" said Rodrigo Aguilera, the Mexico analyst for the Economist Intelligence Unit. "There is a new generation of PRI members, but they don't represent any fundamentally different outlook."

Pena Nieto assumed office in the early seconds of Saturday during a brief ceremony with outgoing President Felipe Calderon at Mexico's historic National Palace. He was to take the formal oath of office later in the day.

The swearing-in ceremony at Congress and then a speech at the National Palace were set to be low on pomp and high on security as Calderon made a smooth transition his goal. Six years ago, Calderon's security unit literally had to muscle him past blockades and protesters to get him into Congress so he could take the oath of office after a razor-thin, disputed victory over a leftist candidate.

Demonstrations were likely outside Congress this time as well and at the city's key monuments. But the country's main leftist party pledged not to swarm the podium this time, and it planned no mass protests like those that paralyzed central Mexico City six years ago.

Mexicans for the most part seemed more focused on the end-of-the-month pay day and Christmas shopping than the arrival of a new president. Divided and ambivalent, many people are wary of a return to the old days, but they're also weary of Calderon's National Action Party and the spike in violence during his six-year attack on organized crime, which has had a toll of 60,000 deaths by some estimates.

Government worker Antonio Vidal, 37, was confident his country wouldn't see much of the PRI of old.

"We've invested heavily in our democracy," he said. "It's very closely watched by civil society, so I don't think the PRI can return to their ways of fraud."

Alma Rosa Martinez, a 40-year-old real estate agent, said she had a very bad feeling.

"It took 70 years to kick them out of power," she said. "How long will it take to kick them out again?"

Pena Nieto has pledged to make economic growth and job creation the centerpiece of his administration, with campaign manager and long-time confidant Luis Videgaray the point person. Videgaray, a 44-year-old economist with a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will lead the treasury department.

Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, a 48-year-old former state governor who is known as a political operator and deal maker, has been named secretary of the interior, a post that will play a key role in security matters.

A bill proposed by Pena Nieto would gather the police and security apparatus under the control of the Interior Department and create a new national anti-corruption commission. Those changes are expected to pass Congress next week.

Pena Nieto has also promised to push for reforms that could bring major new private investment into Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, the crucial but struggling state-owned oil industry. Such changes that have been blocked for decades by nationalist suspicion of foreign meddling in the oil business.

Baltimore blogger airs police talks, surrenders

BALTIMORE (AP) ? A Baltimore blogger wanted on a court-issued warrant surrendered without incident to authorities late Saturday after broadcasting on Internet radio his negotiations with police who had surrounded his home.

Police said 47-year-old Frank James MacArthur emerged late Saturday evening. He had remained inside his home when law-enforcement officers sought at around 6 p.m. to serve a warrant issued in June for a probation violation stemming from a 2009 gun case. Authorities said MacArthur had missed a court hearing.

With a tactical unit outside, MacArthur broadcast his talks with a police negotiator on The Baltimore Spectator website.

MacArthur expressed frustration about his treatment by police, telling listeners, "I am surrounded by a bunch of men with guns."

Lt. Col. Garnell Green said the tactical unit was called in because MacArthur had made numerous threats on Twitter against officers, including those who might try to arrest him.

Green said MacArthur is being charged with a probation violation, and that police will discuss with prosecutors whether he will face other charges.

He said officers have been trying to apprehend MacArthur for several days.

The Baltimore Sun reports that MacArthur has been a gadfly on local issues, and had been posting on social media for several days about his "fugitive" status and alleging that police would try to harm him. He claimed he was never notified about the court date.

During talks with the Baltimore police negotiator, Lt. Jason Yerg, MacArthur continued to express concerns about his safety.

He criticized the heavy police presence at his Waverly home, saying of the negotiator, "He needs to be battling bad guys, not spending his time talking to The Baltimore Spectator."

MacArthur said he would come out at around 10:30 p.m., but then offered more commentary. At one point he thanked CNN commentator Roland Martin for expressing interest in his case via Twitter. Martin advised MacArthur, "You NEED to go outside," and also Tweeted that MacArthur's attorney should meet him at the police station.

MacArthur emerged around 11 p.m. and was taken into custody.

IN 24 HOURS

Want to hear something that is VERY ironic?

The one thing that most internet marketers want the MOST is what they need the LEAST.

Most internet marketers are actively looking for a new marketing tactic or tool.

Their days are spent trying this idea and that idea, giving this new thing a chance and that new thing a chance.

They try a few list-building things.? They try a few traffic generation things.? They try a few affiliate marketing things. They do the SEO ?trick? they heard about on the forum.? They write a gazillion ezine articles ?cuz they heard that works.? They move on to videos.? Yeah, videos ? that?s the answer because it?s new for now.

30 days later, 6? months later, 3 years later ? they?re singing a new verse of the same song.

They are actively looking for a new marketing tactic or tool.

In the process they?ve been spending money instead of making it.? They?ve been wasting time instead of freeing it up.

What?s the problem?? Is it all smoke and mirrors?? Is it all one big scam?

The problem is the ironic and sad reality:? most internet marketers never see huge success because they constantly pursue things they WANT instead of things they NEED.

We?ll get back to that in just a moment.? Hold that thought.

What I?m going to share with you in the remainder of this article will be a paradigm shift for a few who ?get it?.

Some will skeptically say, ?Jimmy is just trying to sell something.?? Some will say, ?Ah, what does he know??? Some will say, ?I?m sure that?s right, but it?s not as sexy as all this other 3-ring circus stuff the gurus are doing?.

Whatever.

Take it for what it is.? I?ve been doing this for ten years.? I make a lot of money.? I spend a whole lot more time traveling and playing tennis and going on mission trips that I do on my business.

I must know something.? It may not be flashy.? But it?s like novocaine, folks.? Give it enough time and it always works.

Someone out there will read this.? And they?ll get that what I?m telling you is legit.? For that person, it?s time for a new song.

For the rest of you.? Come back in 30 days. Or 6 months.? Or 3 years.? And read this post.? Maybe then it will sink in.

Here are 3 keys to kick-starting your business in the next 24 hours?

1. STREAMLINE.

The first order of business is to bring some order to your business!? You?ve got to streamline.? And what I mean by that is simply this:? do one thing and do it well.

You need to ?decide what you want to be when you grow up?.? That is, what business model do you want to follow?? What is the ONE primary thing you?re going to do to make money?

Are you going to create information products?? Be an affiliate marketer?? Sell items on eBay?? Create and flip websites?? Provide a service?? Coach?

Resist the temptation to try it all.? Resist the temptation to dabble.? Dabbling is a horrible, horrible thing for the average internet marketer.? Trying a little bit of many things almost certainly will mean you won?t do anything well.

Decide right now what the ONE PRIMARY method of generating cash for your business will be.? Don?t proceed until you?ve streamlined your business.

Then?

2. SYSTEMIZE.

Internet marketing is too big in and of itself.? Imagine someone saying, ?Now go do health? or ?get out there and be a traveler? or ?start parenting?.

Regardless of what your ONE revenue path is, there will be many parts.? You?ve got to systemize your business into manageable chunks.? You?ve got to break everything down into a daily, weekly and monthly schedule of action steps.

For me, I keep it very simple.? I have three parts to my business?

* Offer creation.
* List marketing.
* Traffic generation.

I create a new offer.? I market it to my list.? I drive traffic to the offer site.

End of story.

I have a system I? use to create a new offer.? I have a system I use to write and send mailings.? I have a system I use for getting visitors to my site.

It?s the same system I?ve been using since 2000.? Novocaine, folks.? Always works.

Create a checklist of action steps for ONE kind of offer.? Create a checklist of action steps for ONE way to build a monetize a list.? Create a checklist of action steps for ONE method of generating website traffic.

Don?t try a bunch of things and do them average or poorly.? Find ONE method and do it WELL.

You want to UNcomplicate things.? You want a MINIMAL set of action steps.? You want to do the very least amount of different things as possible to achieve your goal.

You?ve got to systemize your business into manageable chunks.

Then?

3. STICK.

Perhaps the most devastating thing in the life of the 95% of those who fail is this:? they don?t stick to it.

Seriously, that?s what failure is ? it?s NOT DOING SOMETHING.? It?s quitting.? It?s coming up short of the finish line.? It?s NOT DOING SOMETHING.

When you narrow things down to ONE way of making money and then create a simple checklist of MINIMAL ACTION STEPS to make money, you absolutely must STICK TO IT.

Don?t quit.? Don?t quit.? Don?t quit.

Despite me saying this, most reading it will quit anyway.

A ?new? offer of the week will come along and they?ll get distracted.? Someone well respected in the industry will convince them that the latest trick is the ?most important thing you?ll ever do?? (Talk about a new verse of the same song!)? Things won?t happen instantly, overnight like other people promise.

Listen, you can rationalize the decision to quit in a thousand different ways.? You can make excuses for why you should move on and try something else.

Label it whatever you want, but just below the surface you?ll see this word tattoed on your being in permanent ink ? failure.? If you quit, it?s all the same ? it?s NOT DOING SOMETHING.

I know it?s hard to stick to things when there LITERALLY is a new offer in your face every single day.? Most people just can?t resist that temptation.

So, do this:? find yourself one mentor that you trust and believe and remove yourself from everyone else?s list.? Just cut that temptation off at the root.

At the end of the day, I can tell you this.? I?m about to celebrate 10 years online.? I make more money than ever and work less than ever.? I promise you, I know what I?m talking about here.

If you want to do well online,? you?ve got to STREAMLINE, SYSTEMIZE and STICK.

You can stop reading right now and apply what I?ve told you so far and you?ll be right on target in six months.? Pay attention to what I?m saying.? You don?t need what I?m about to offer you.? I know that?s contradictory to most people?s sales pitch.? I?m supposed to convince you to buy something from me right now.? And it?s true that I do have an offer for you.? But I?m telling you up front, you can do everything I?ve told you above and be fine on your own.? You don?t need my offer.
