Position Objectives:
Performs difficult technical and skilled work in the installation and support of data systems and operation of electronic data processing equipment; does related work as required.? Develops, maintains and supports the City?s web-based technologies which include multiple Internet and Intranet sites and web applications. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Information Systems Supervisor.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, and noise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Operating computer system; maintaining files; supporting network and data systems; troubleshooting problems; instructing users.
- Supports operating systems
- Monitors and troubleshoots local and remote communications
- Prepares and maintains operation run schedules
- Monitors, controls and operates IBM I-520
- Determines equipment setting, operating instructions and performs necessary input maintenance during production runs
- Verifies that output such as hard copy, microfiche and magnetic media are complete and accurate
- Ensures that monthly, quarterly and annual reports are completed
- Verifies that nightly batch updates are completed and output is complete
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and develops solutions
- Monitors equipment and program performance during processing to detect errors in operations
- Notifies supervisor of equipment or program malfunction and takes corrective action if required
- Prepares daily and weekly system backup
- Prepares and maintains records and necessary operating reports
- Utilizes sequels to produce qualified reports not provided by applications software
- Assists with training personal computer user training assistance
- Responds to user inquiries and complaints concerning systems and/or problems
- Updates and makes changes to the internet sites for City of Jacksonville Beach, Beaches Energy, and Employee Intranet
- Designs, codes and installs web pages for both internet sites and intranet site
- Monitors internet sites for functionality
- Troubleshoots internet issues, involving vendor technical support when necessary
- Ensures applicable standards such as HTML validity and link functionality
- Optimizes the web architecture for navigability
- Coordinates meetings with City website committee and reviews proposed changes and enhancements to the websites with members
- Implements approved changes and enhancements to the websites
- Editorial responsibility for the content, quality and style of the site
- Provides first level user support for internet issues
- Performs related tasks as required
?KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of electronic data processing main and peripheral equipment; some knowledge of general office practices and equipment; general knowledge of the operation of personal computers; ability to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions; ability to analyze software programs and program minor adjustments; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to coordinate the work of others; possess sequel programming, general programming logic and internet programming logic skills.? Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to multitask and prioritize deadlines and to produce quality documentation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college level courses.? Associate Degree in computer science and/or internet technology preferred.? Possess considerable experience in the operation of IBM mid-range and personal computer equipment.? Experience and knowledge of basic computer networking fundamentals using Ethernet LAN topology with TCP/IP protocol, particularly in connectivity of personal computers to IBM mid-range computers.? Experience and knowledge required with image editing applications, coding skills to include HTML, ASP, and Java Script.
