- The Robot Restaurant 20 in Harbin, China is like something out of a sci-fi film. Diners are greeted and served by mechanical beings that are programmed with more than 10 facial expressions and have the ability to recite basic phrases. I can only imagine the comedic opportunity there. But I digress, the Robots are operated by staff from a computer room and can run for five hours before needing to be recharged. The restaurant was set up for an initial investment cost of $800,000 and the robots cost anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 a piece.
