Daily affirmations are a great tool to keep yourself focused on your own road to personal self improvement as well as professional self improvement. However, this is a tool that should be used in alignment with an overall self improvement program. From my experience, some people fail to include these 3 other pieces as they finish their own self improvement puzzle.
1. Are your daily affirmations connected or aligned to your Goals? Affirmations should be reinforcing the goal that you are working to achieve. If your goal is to lose weight, your affirmation might be: I am always a healthy person.
Every goal that you commit to writing (and you commit your goals to writing don't you?) should have at least one affirmation. These affirmations will change as your goals change.
2. Are your affirmations connected or aligned to your Attitudes? Since attitudes are habits of thought and many are quite negative in nature, affirmations help to turn all that negative brain trash noise into positive brain music.
Affirmations are great tools, but they can only be effective if your attitude is one of believing that they can be effective. Sporadic use of affirmations will give you sporadic results. Develop an attitude or again habit of thought of using these affirmations 3 times each day. Make sure you read them out lout, hear them, touch them and most importantly feel them.
3. Are your daily affirmation connected to your Self Leadership Skills? These strong interpersonal skills are necessary to be successful in today's highly competitive global market place.
Take the time to assess your self leadership skills. These skills include:
- Communication
- Confidence
- Courage
- Creativity
- Decision Making
- Problem Solving
- Team Building
- Time Management
By strengthening your daily affirmations with Goals, Attitudes and Self Leadership Skills, you will be truly using this tool to the very best of its potential.
