Tippytoe Crafts: YAH: Baby Shower Ideas

While I was with my family over the holidays, they threw me and my husband a baby shower.
It was very casual but we had a lot of fun so I thought I'd share some of the things we did with you. My sister Suzie made the bathtub/shower cake.

?

She made the cake in a bread pan and the shower head is the top of a small plastic champagne glass glued to a straw. The water is ribbon. It even had "claw" feet, which I didn't get a picture of. She made those with golf ball rings. And it tasted great -- pink lemonade! I also got my own cloth diaper cake (which I showed you how to make here) and baby booties (which I shared with you here).
My sister Sarah made hot chocolate sticks with marshmallows and snowman Peeps!
They were so cute! And my sister Suzie made us some onesie cupcakes!
They were onesies rolled up with a sock in the middle and they were in cupcake liners. Adorable!
We also played a few games. For the first one, everyone had to blow up a balloon to the size they thought my belly was, then put it under their shirt to compare it with mine. The kids loved this.

But the adults had fun with it, too.

My mom won that game. Another game involved cutting a piece of ribbon to the size they thought my belly was. Then everyone wrapped the ribbon around me to see if they were right. I didn't get any pictures of that because I was busy getting wrapped up! My 3-year-old niece won. She was right on. My husband, however, cut his ribbon way too long. It was almost able to go around me twice! Hmm....
The third game I want to share with you is a drinking game. But not that kind! Little plastic babies were put into lemonade ice cubes. When we had punch, each person got an ice cube for their glass.
The first person whose ice melted so?the baby floated freely yelled, "My water broke!' My brother Peter got the prize for that game!
And there was one last surprise that caught me off-guard. My family sang us a song. We have a tradition of singing songs as a "gift" either for a wedding or a 40th birthday celebration. So I was not expecting one at the baby shower! It was sung to the tune of "Teach Your Children" by Crosby, Stills & Nash, but the words were changed to fit our situation. It was written mostly by my sisters Kate and Sarah and my brother-in-law Kurt played the guitar.

And of course I ended up crying through the whole thing, even though there were some funny lines.

I think part of it was the surprise and being the center of attention (I'm not very comfortable with that), but also part of it was that I honestly never thought I'd make it this far in my pregnancy. I just kept thinking of everything we've been through to get to this point and I couldn't stop the tears. But it was wonderful and I feel truly blessed to have such an amazing family!

Intel TV ControllerIntel?is preparing to launch its rumored virtual cable TV service and set top box, and has a plan to overcome licensing hurdles. Rather than roll out nationwide, the launch will happen on a city-by-city basis so Intel has more flexibility in negotiating licensing with reluctant content providers, according to a video industry source. New York's MTA subway data hits Android in beta form

Subway Time for Android

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority this week released its "Subway Time" app for iOS, which gives real-time updates for trains in and and around New York City. Need to know how soon a certain train will be at a certain station? That's the app to have.

Only, we use Android around these here parts. And MTA's not making an app for us. But what it is doing is making the data freely available to anyone -- and we've already seen our first "unofficial" app released in beta. Subway Time for Android, released by The Holodeck, taps into that MTA data and brings a fairly functional app to Android. There are bugs. There are layout issues. But those can be fixed. That we're seeing the app ported over in just a matter of days is proof positive that we're on the right side here, folks. So break out those MTA cards and let's give this guy a go.

More: MTA Developer Resources; Thanks for the tip, @EladKatz!

In 2012, we turned to Wikipedia to learn about ... Facebook?

16 hrs.

Unlike most major Internet brands, Wikipedia had no year-end top-10 list to share. But that's not to say there isn't a list of most viewed Wikipedia articles of 2012. It took a software engineer with a bit of spare time to gather up the data, and share the results, equal parts predictable and off-the-wall.?What does this list say about us?

Based on?Johan Gunnarsson's analysis of Wikipedia logs, it seems that?the most viewed articles on the English version of Wikipedia are lined up as follows:

  • 1. Facebook - 32,647,942 views
  • 2.?Wiki -?29,613,759?views
  • 3.?Deaths in 2012 -?25,418,587?views
  • 4.?One Direction -?22,351,637?views
  • 5.?The Avengers (2012 film) -?22,268,644?views
  • 6.?Fifty Shades of Grey -?21,779,423?views
  • 7.?2012 phenomenon -?20,619,920?views
  • 8.?The Dark Knight Rises -?18,882,885?views
  • 9.?Google -?18,508,719?views
  • 10.?The Hunger Games -?18,431,626?views

While we're not surprised to see iconic pop culture phenomena like musical sensation One Direction, the all-star movie?"The?Avengers," the risque literary?trilogy "Fifty Shades of Grey" and of course the?inescapable "Hunger Games" series?appear,?we did scratch our heads about Facebook and Google, and ... "Wiki"?

Wikimedia spokesman Jay Walsh explained the popularity of these items to All Things D's Liz Gannes as likely being due to users who might type "Facebook" or similar into a search engine built into "their browsers intending to go to the site and end up on Wikipedia."?Either that, he says, or there's simply "general, high-level interest and curiosity" about the history of some of these websites and services.

We'll buy the accidental typing explanation over the "high-level of?interest" one.

While most of the top 100 most-viewed?English Wikipedia articles centered around pop culture and current events, some articles raise eyebrows for feeling a bit out of place. Entries on the Illuminati (No. 33), elocution (No. 34)?and g-forces (No. 83)?cropped up on the heels of expected entries like Mitt Romney (No. 22) and?Justin Bieber (No. 25).

The more immature individuals among us may find it amusing that entries on sex (No. 18) and human penis size (No. 82) made it into the list of 100?most viewed.?Android fanboys may flaunt the fact that an article about the mobile operating system hit the list at No. 70, while no entries about iOS made it into the top 100. (Though Steve Jobs did come in at No. 64.)

At least some people were using Wikipedia for its intended purpose, to cheat on homework assignments: Historical topics from?Albert Einstein (No. 98)?to the Hatfield-McCoy feud (No. 91) pepper the list.

When looking at the?most viewed articles in languages other than English, we find that the obsession with major Web properties and pop culture extends beyond their idiom of origin. Facebook led the Spanish top 10, which also includes One Direction. German language readers were particularly interested in the?TV shows "How I Met Your Mother," "The Big Bang Theory," "Two And A Half Men," and "Game Of Thrones" ? all which made it into their top 10.

And speaking of Bieber,?those with an irrational dislike for the teen?heartthrob may find it comforting to know that he?only made the top 10 in Norwegian and Danish. He failed to reach single digits in any other language, and sits at No. 25 on the list of the most viewed English Wikipedia articles.

"Gangnam Style," the ear-worm that beat Bieber's "Baby" to?a billion views on YouTube, appears to have only made it onto one top-100 list?? the English one ? taking the No. 21 spot with a mere?13,129,876 views.

Home education is one of my passions; I talk about it, I blog about it ...

We decided to home school our children, basically when we had children.? I know that seems like a ?off the cuff? comment, but it is more or less true.? I was convicted first, about my?responsibly?to the children, and I lobbied and convinced The Daddy.? Originally we started out planning to home school for some pretty basic reasons:

  • I believed it my God given role and responsibility
  • Our local school district was very very poor
  • I didn?t want to share my children
  • I didn?t trust anyone else to take care of my children.

I did not want my child to be ?just another kid? in a class of 20 or more; I wanted to raise my kids my way; I knew God had gifted me and my husband with these kids, not the school district.? I could not conceive of sending my little boy away all day in to a room full of kids to be parented by strangers.

Before we started to home school I created a Family Educational Mission Statement.? I strongly suggest any parent thinking about, weight the options, or wanting to home educate create a document summering your mission.? Because that is what it is, a mission.? Now, personally, I love words and I think well when writing, so mine Mission Statement is now, and started off, very detailed and complex.? There is no reason that it has to be; a simple list of bullet point why you feel home is best, or what you are trying to accomplish at home is sufficient.? Sit down and really think about it; both from a practical day-to-day point of view and also ?the bigger picture? considering the role education plays in your children?s lives.? Such an exercise really forces a parent to think about not only why they want to home school their kids but also specifically what you are trying to accomplish and why home is a better setting for your goals.? It is helpful to have such a document to go back to; when the going gets tough, or you find yourself taking the easy path ? to look at why you are home, why you are fighting over math, why you are challenging your 7 year old to learn Latin and so on.? It is a real motivation; it is a tool for keeping on track.? It also helps with the first jump into homeschooling.? Mine never went to school, I never made a jump; but I know it is a challenge for parents that bring their kids home from out the house school, it is a challenge to really feel like they are capable.? I blogged in detail about our decision in 2010.? https://scribinglife.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/why-we-feel-homeschool-is-the-best-choice-for-our-family-part-1/ and https://scribinglife.wordpress.com/2010/08/17/540/

There are many many approaches to home schooling; we chose to ?school at home? meaning we use text and work books and follow a daily schedule (mostly) and cover subjects mostly like a school would, just a school of two.? I love our flexibility to do phonics at 6:30 am right after daddy goes to work, or at 11 after we get home from the park; but our school work does, mostly, look like the school work they would be doing in a classroom.? That is our choice, and certainly not the only choice.

Now that we are 2.5 years in to our ?official? journey of home education we have more reason to home school.? Or maybe the reason we home school are just more become more salient to us.

  • I know it my God given role and responsibility
  • I want to watch my children learn
  • I want to challenge my kids individually
  • I want them safe from school violence (and I don?t just mean the statically infrequent shootings though I do have strong feeling about them)
  • I want to meet my children?s particular needs and not make them beholden to a classroom full of peers
  • I want to keep our expectations of the children age sensitive and I feel classroom management does not allow for children (especially young children) to be children

I may be a rare bird; most of my friends that home school, started from a place of ?doubt? wondering if they really could ?do it?.? I never suffered those thoughts.? I was either silly in my over-confidence, so just so blessed by families I knew that homeschooled that I accepted home education as normal and always assumed I could handle it.? I can handle the 3rd meltdown of the day before 9 am and I can handle grammar.

I have always been of the opinion that parents teach their kids to walk to talk, to look both ways at a street; there is no reason a parent can not teach their child to read, their math facts or world history. ?I see home education as a natural progression for a family.? Parents do not lose their ability to teach and train their children when the child reaches 5 or 6 years of age.? I have never been a believer of the ?profession? of teacher as somehow more capable or able than a parent.? (I do respect the profession of the teacher in their role, in out of home education, teaching many different students and managing a classroom; I just don?t think they, one-on-one, do anything I can?t do)

I admit as we have home schooled and as my children have gotten older my focus has changed; where as I started homeschooling with the selfish feeling of not wanting to share my children with a stranger 35+ hours a day, and did not want school to run our lives.? Now I realize that my son would not flourish in a classroom like he is at home.? At home he / we have had time to focus on some other challenges while taking school more slowly.? At home we have had the ability to limit stress without sacrificing his education.? Having my boys home has meant we can go to OT or to ST or to whatever other appointments and not have to miss class time or to create more make up work.? Homeschooling has allowed me to know my children and for us to make progress that would have been slowed or missed if we rushed around in the morning trying to get to school on time, if they were gone 7:30 am to 3 pm, and if they were home just in time eat dinner, struggle over home work, and get ready for bed.

I do not mean to imply homeschooling is easy; it isn?t.? But, then again, parenting is not easy.

L.A. offers groceries for guns in annual buyback

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Long lines of cars and people formed Wednesday to take advantage of a guns-for-groceries exchange program that was moved up in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting.

Police officers filled bins with more than 1,500 rifles and handguns outside the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and the Van Nuys Masonic Temple, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Officials were mindful of both the massacre of students and teachers in Newtown, Conn., and a gunman's ambush that killed two firefighters in Webster, N.Y.

"All of us are still mourning the tragedy at Newtown, Conn.," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "So many young innocent children were mass-murdered in the way that they were, and now the assassination of two firefighters ... just breaks the heart of so many of us, particularly in this holiday season."

The anonymous buyback program allowed weapons to be turned in with no questions asked. Handguns, rifles and shotguns could be exchanged for $100 Ralphs grocery store gift cards. Assault weapons earned a $200 card.

The program, designed to get guns off the streets, usually is held in May. Villaraigosa decided to do it now in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The last buyback netted about 1,700 guns.

Iraq Sunni rallies gather steam

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters from Iraq's Sunni Muslim minority kept up a week-old blockade on a key highway on Thursday and readied mass rallies for Friday to demand concessions from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Protests flared last week after troops loyal to Maliki, who is from the Shi'ite majority, detained bodyguards of his finance minister, a Sunni. Many Sunnis, whose community dominated Iraq until the fall of Saddam Hussein, accuse Maliki of refusing to share power and of favoring Shi'ite, non-Arab neighbor Iran.

A year after U.S. troops left, sectarian friction, as well as tension over land and oil between Arabs and ethnic Kurds, threaten renewed unrest and are hampering efforts to repair the damage of years of violence and exploit Iraq's energy riches.

"The people want to bring down the regime," chanted some of about 2,000 demonstrators in the Sunni city of Ramadi - an echo of those used abroad during last year's "Arab Spring" and still a rallying cry for mainly Sunni rebels in neighboring Syria.

Some flew the old Iraqi flag, introduced by Saddam's Baath party and bearing three stars. It was replaced in 2008. Earlier in the week, Syria's rebel flag was also flown at the protests.

The main highway at Ramadi, 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad, was barricaded for a fifth day, disrupting transit of government supplies along a key trade route to and from Jordan and Syria. Protesters were, however, letting most trucks, carrying private goods, pass along another road through Ramadi.

There was also a small protest in the northern city of Mosul. Activists, who want changes to laws on terrorism that they say penalize Sunnis, plan bigger rallies on Friday, the traditional day of rest - and protest - in the Muslim world.

"If the government does not deal seriously with the people's demands, we will take our battle to the gates of Baghdad," said Sheikh Ali Hatem Sulaiman, head of the Dulaimi tribe, which dominates Ramadi and the sprawling desert province of Anbar.

Recalling the role the Anbar tribes played in first fighting the U.S. occupation and then allying with U.S. forces and the Baghdad government to contain al Qaeda fighters in the region, the sheikh warned Maliki's administration that Sunnis might resort to violence - though it is unclear how ready they are:

"Just as we fought al-Qaeda and the Americans, we will fight the government inside Baghdad," he said.

Should Friday's protests provide a mass show of force, it may add to concerns that the increasingly sectarian Syrian civil war, where majority Sunnis are battling a ruler backed by Iran, will push Iraq back to the Sunni-Shi'ite slaughter of 2005-07.

Al Qaeda fighters appear to be regrouping in Anbar and to be joining rebel ranks across the border in Syria.

While demands so far focus on the anti-terrorism laws which Sunnis say are being used against them, one lecturer in law at Baghdad University said Sunnis might be emboldened to call for regional autonomy in Anbar and other provinces in the northwest where they are in a majority - a status similar to that of the Kurds, who won Western-backed autonomy from Saddam in 1991.

"I'm seeing greater determination to defy Maliki and if their demands are not met, the call to have their own region will be an inevitable consequence," said Ahmed Younis. "The Kurdish region could become a model for Sunnis in Anbar."

SECTARIAN SLANT

Sunni complaints against Maliki grew louder a week ago when, just hours after Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd seen as a steadying influence, was flown abroad for medical care, troops arrested bodyguards for Finance Minister Rafaie al-Esawi.

For many it recalled how Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, a Sunni, was forced to flee into exile a year ago, just when U.S. troops had withdrawn. Hashemi, sentenced to death in absentia, told al-Hayat newspaper on Thursday that it was "fresh evidence of a plot to exclude Sunni Arabs from the political process".

Maliki has sought to divide his rivals and strengthen alliances in Iraq's complex political landscape before provincial elections next year and a parliamentary vote in 2014.

A face-off between the Iraqi army and Kurdish forces over disputed oilfields in the north has been seen as a possible way of rallying Sunni Arab support behind the prime minister.

Shi'ite rivals to Maliki, notably cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, have also looked to broader alliance, notably by voicing support for the protesters' grievances in Anbar this week.

But anti-Shi'ite rhetoric among them limits the chances for cooperation: "They lost a lot of sympathy by using these sectarian slogans," lawmaker Hakim al-Zamili, a Sadr ally, told Reuters. "I don't expect many Maliki opponents to join them".

An analyst at the Iraq Institute for Strategic Studies also doubted the protests would broaden greatly to threaten Maliki: "We are talking about demands that have a certain geography," said Yahya Qubaisi. "They are not national demands."

Bangladesh Slaughters 150,000 Birds After Worst H5N1 Virus Outbreak In 5 Years

An anonymous reader writes in with news about a bird flu outbreak in Bangladesh. "At least 150,000 chickens and 300,000 eggs have been destroyed at a giant poultry farm near Dhaka in Bangladesh after the major outbreak of avian flu was detected last week, officials said Wednesday. This season's bird flu outbreak was the worst in five years. Officials at Bay Agro at Gazipur detected the deadly H5N1 flu strain 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of Dhaka on Monday after dozens of birds died, which had prompted the poultry company to send samples to a laboratory for testing. 'There are about 150,000 chickens at the farm. We have already killed and destroyed 120,000 chickens and we will kill the rest today,' livestock department director Mosaddeq Hossain said, according to AFP. Hossain said that it was the worst avian flu outbreak in five years."

No More Driveway Moments: NPR for iPad | iPad.AppStorm

How many times have you sat in the car with the engine turned off, so engrossed in an NPR radio story that you had to hear the end before going into your house? If you?re an NPR addict like me, you?ll kick yourself for waiting so long to get the NPR iPad app.

I spend less time driving a car these days and more time riding a bus, flying on a plane or working from home. The NPR iPad app is a great way to stay connected to my favorite news source, and it?s free! If you?re interested in an app that lets you live stream NPR radio anywhere there?s an Internet connection, keep playlists of stories for listening to later and read articles in a magazine-style format offline, keep reading ?

Like the article? You should subscribe and follow us on twitter.

Getting Started

Enter the world of NPR and find an easy-to-navigate home screen designed to embrace the intuitive functionality of the iPad environment. This is where the magazine-style format comes into play, and Stories are organized into three categories: News, Arts & Life, and Music. Swiping right and left takes you through a selection of the latest Stories, which update every time you open the app. The Topics button in the top right corner allows you to customize feeds to be updated automatically when an Internet connection is present, so that the content is available to read offline. It?s important to note that audio is not available offline, only written content.

The home screen shows stories in three categories: News, Arts & Life, and Music that you can navigate through by swiping left and right.

The home screen shows stories in three categories: News, Arts & Life, and Music that you can navigate through by swiping left and right.

On the bottom of the Home screen you?ll find a navigation bar with several options. Tap Hourly News to listen to the latest Hourly News update from NPR radio (usually less than five minutes). The pause, rewind and fast forward buttons on the far left of the navigation bar allow you to manipulate whatever audio is currently playing.

Stories

The Stories on the home screen are from NPR.org; all include a written transcript, and some include audio from radio programming. Don?t think NPR is denying you the radio experience here, instead look at it as bonus content you can experience offline. Not all content NPR produces is for the radio. If the story contains audio, you?ll see the Listen Now button. If you would prefer to listen later, just tap + Add to Playlist. Below these buttons are options for sharing the story via Twitter, Facebook or email.

While a story is playing, you can leave the app and check your email, browse the Internet, etc. Turn off the screen and listen while doing the dishes, lifting weights or whatever it is you?re up to. You can even pause the story, turn off your iPad completely and resume it later. At the bottom of each story is a More Stories button, which allows you to browse other stories in the same category without leaving the page.

Listening to NPR Radio

Go to the persistent navigation bar at the bottom of the screen and tap Programs for Directory of NPR radio shows, such as Science Friday or Fresh Air. Programs are different from Stories, in that they are audio only, containing no written transcript. Also, an Internet connection is required to listen to any audio on the app, but the photos and written transcripts of Stories can be viewed offline.

View Programs by Title or Topic by tapping the preferred option at the top of the page. Tap the audio button of a specific episode to listen, or add it to your Playlist for later. Select the heart shape next to a Program title to Favorite it, moving it to the top of your program list.

Programs by Title are arrange by the program name, with favorites appearing at the top of the screen.

Find Your Favorite NPR Station

Tap the Stations button on the persistent navigation bar at the bottom of the screen to search for your Favorite Stations either by entering your Zip, City, State or Call Letters or by the Find Nearest, which uses your current location. This function is great for keeping a list of your favorite stations or finding local news while traveling.

Once the list appears, tap the heart next to a Station to make it a Favorite. Your Favorite Stations can always be found by tapping the Stations button.

Customize Your Playlist

One of the best parts of this app is the ability to collect and store audio stories in a Playlist. Find the Playlist button on the persistent navigation bar at the bottom of the screen ? it?s the box with lines and dots. If you?ve added Programs to listen to, you?ll see a red circle with a number in it as a reminder.

Collect audio programs to listen to later in the Playlist.

Collect audio programs to listen to later in the Playlist.

Items are organized in two categories: New and History. If you?ve listened to a Program but haven?t deleted it, the audio is saved under History so you can refer to it again later. Newly added Programs appear at the top of the list. Tap the Edit button to rearrange the order of Programs by tapping and dragging, or to delete Programs by tapping the red circle. It?s great to be able to save up to 99 Programs in the Playlist, but disappointing that only the audio is saved. Even if a Program contained a written transcript, you can?t access it in the Playlist. It would be nice to see this functionality added to the app. Also, it?s inconvenient that Programs in the Playlist can only be deleted one at a time ? no bulk action for the Delete button. NPR recognizes this and has intentions to correct it in future updates.

Conclusion

NPR is a nonprofit public media company offering a free app to share content from their website and radio programs in a rich, magazine-style format on the iPad. NPR devotees who don?t spend much time in a car listening to radio will appreciate the regularly updating news feeds and live radio streaming, as well as the ability to personalize the app, prioritizing favorite programs and collecting stories in the playlist.

The biggest flaw with the NPR app is its tendency to crash occasionally, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. A mixture of photographs, audio and written transcripts displayed in an easy to navigate mobile environment allows users a bird?s eye view of the content. The NPR app brings the content to life, making it easier to enjoy the unique stories and engaging news coverage that NPR is known for.

RolePlayGateway?

The Final Epilogue is a fanfic roleplay of the game The Last Story. It takes place generations after the game's ending, when the original members of the mercenary group have been long passed away. A new ruler has stepped up to take the throne, and everything went haywire.

The new ruler cared only for himself. Unlike other tyrants, this one happens to simply not care for his people. Instead, the ruler made decisions only to benefit himelf in petty ways (like the levee, building up his castle, having feasts and parties every meal of everyday). And there are even more threats to society now.

The citizens of Lazulis City lived peacefully with the Gurak population, until now. Now that there is a weak ruler in the Argannan throne, Segregation Groups have risen up to kill off or at least dominate the other race. What's more is that the Reptids have dug their ways out of the underground, and now are pillaging the citizens of Lazulis City, Outskirts.

However, there is hope. A new generation of the Zael Mercenaries have risen up to help the people, and relinquish the power of the ruler. They will do quests, fend of reptids, crush the Segregation Groups, and give the throne to the rumored lost child of Argannan.

Roles:

Mercenary
The Mecenaries are the protagonists of this roleplay. They try to help as much people as they can in the long run while trying to complete the ultimate goal.

The King
Julian is, to put it simple, a sick bastard who would let his people rot as long as his desires are fullfilled. Julian supports the Human Segregation Group. He is one of the antagonists of this roleplay.

Human Segregation Group
A group of human extremists who want to cause havoc on the Gurak. They want to seperate and isolate the Gurak as much as possible. Some want to kill the whole population so the humans only remain. Either way, they want to do harm to the Gurak population. Their leader is Lucian.

Leader of the Human Segregation Group
Lucian is as clever and as sneaky as a snake, and he is as deadly as one, too. His words can easily set into your head, and Lucian can easily manipulate you. His swordsmanship is unparalled to anyone still alive. However, you can still compare it to Sir Therius's skill in the sword.

Gurak Segregation Group
The Gurak clone of the Human Segregation Group. They want to overthrow King Julian as well and place their leader, Zane, on the throne.

Leader of the Gurak Segregation Group
Zane is a direct descendant of Zangurak, the former Gurak king who was killed in the war against the humans. Because of his family's history, many humans had actually despised him. Thus, he created the Gurak Segregation Group out of anger.

The Knights
While they are charged with Julian's orders, they try to resist as much as possible without him knowing. They support the mercenaries, and when the band rebels, the knights will fight alongside them. However, there are some who are part of the Segregation Groups, and a handful are fu;ly devoted to King Julian.

Other:
Magic:
Some people are able to use magic. The elements consist of light, darkness, star, nature, fire, and ice. Using the element the smae as the enemy's results in it absorbing the magic and healing itself. Using the opposite element results in more damage, however the same applies to you (you only get an element if you are a mage.).

Using magic also results in the manifestation of magic circles. They usually deal damage to the enemy except for healing circles. Fire circles add fire element to your physical attacks, ice makes ice attacks, etc etc for the other elements. You also have healing spells, which result in healing circles. Stand on them and you will get healed overtime until you are fully regenerated. After a few minutes, the circle will dissipitate on it's own.

There are three more circles. which aren't manifested by magic spells. They manifest only at the user's comman, but only ofr a short time. Damage circles keep weakening opponents, and poison circles poison the opponent. The last circle, Death circle, does not effect the opponent itself. It uses spikes that rise from the ground to attack the opponent. If they survive, they will be given the Death status, meaning that if they don't get into a heal circle, they will die. The Death Circle disappears after attacking. Damage Circles only dissipitate after the user has died.

However, there are certain skills that warriors (non magic users) can use to diffuse those circles. (Unlike the game, I will NOT allow the effects of Diffusion.)
Few mages can also have the spell Reverse, which reverses the effects (heal circles turn into damage circles, ice circles effect the original user and its allies, etc.).

Spirit Attacks:
At the time when you most need it, you would be able to do some kind of strong attack that would have an effect on the enemy. Mages use spells, warriors use slashes or stabs or whatever, and mixed usually make up something unique.
There are also two sacred spells only available to the Argannan family called Ancient Summon and Ancient Barrier. They are both unknown, and you must find out only by casting the spell as an Argannan (marriages do not apply).
Remember: Spirit attacks are extremely rare and it takes a lot of training to even learn them. Even them, I'll allow one spirit attack every ten posts.

Worshippers rejoice in Jesus' Bethlehem birthplace

BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AP) ? Pilgrims and locals celebrated Christmas Day on Tuesday in the ancient Bethlehem church where tradition holds Jesus was born, candles illuminating the sacred site and the joyous sound of prayer filling its overflowing halls.

Overcast skies and a cold wind didn't dampen the spirits of worshippers who came dressed in holiday finery and the traditional attire of foreign lands to mark the holy day in this biblical West Bank town. Bells pealed and long lines formed inside the fourth-century Church of the Nativity complex as Christian faithful waited eagerly to see the grotto that is Jesus' traditional birthplace.

Duncan Hardock, 24, a writer from MacLean, Va., traveled to Bethlehem from the republic of Georgia, where he had been teaching English. After passing through the separation barrier Israel built to ward off West Bank attackers, he walked to Bethlehem's Manger Square where the church stands.

"I feel we got to see both sides of Bethlehem in a really short period of time," Hardock said. "On our walk from the wall, we got to see the lonesome, closed side of Bethlehem ... But the moment we got into town, we're suddenly in the middle of the party."

Bethlehem lies 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Jerusalem. Entry to the city is controlled by Israel, which occupied the West Bank in 1967.

Hardock's girlfriend, 22-year-old Jennifer Gemmell of Longmont, Colorado, compared the festive spirit in Manger Square on Christmas Eve, saying "it's like being at Times Square at New Year's."

The cavernous church was unable to hold all the worshippers who had hoped to celebrate Christmas Day Mass inside. A loudspeaker outside the church broadcast the service to the hundreds in the square who could not pack inside.

Tourists in the square posed for pictures as vendors hawked olive wood rosaries, nativity scenes, corn on the cob, roasted nuts, tea and coffee.

An official from the Palestinian tourism ministry predicted 10,000 foreigners would visit Bethlehem on Christmas Day and said 15,000 visited on Christmas Eve ? up 20 percent from a year earlier. The official, Rula Maia'a, attributed the rise in part to the Church of the Nativity's classification earlier this year as a U.N. World Heritage Site.

Christians from Israel ? Arab citizens and others ? also boosted the number of visitors.

Information technology consultant Martin Wzork came to Bethlehem with his wife and young daughter from Krakow, Poland.

"My wife believes in God, so it's important for her," said Wzork, who described himself as a non-believer. "For me, it's interesting because it's a historical place and famous."

On Christmas Eve, thousands of Christians from all over the world packed the square, which was awash in light, resplendent with decorations and adorned by a lavishly decorated, 17-meter (55-foot) fir tree. Their Palestinian hosts, who welcome this holiday as the high point of their city's year, were especially joyous this season, proud of the United Nations' recognition of an independent state of Palestine just last month.

Israel, backed by the United States, opposed the Palestinian statehood bid, saying it was a ploy to bypass negotiations, something the Palestinians deny. Talks stalled four years ago.

Later Tuesday, the world's Christmas focus will shift to Vatican City, where Pope Benedict XVI will deliver his traditional "Urbi et Orbi" speech ? Latin for "to the city and the world" ? from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica to thousands of pilgrims, tourists and Romans gathered in the piazza below.

The speech traditionally reviews world events and global challenges, and ends with the pope delivering Christmas greetings in dozens of languages.

U.S. moves to sell advanced spy drones to South Korea

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration formally proposed a controversial sale of advanced spy drones to help South Korea bear more of its defense from any attack by the heavily armed North.

Seoul has requested a possible $1.2 billion sale of four Northrop Grumman Corp RQ-4 "Global Hawk" remotely piloted aircraft with enhanced surveillance capabilities, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement dated on Monday and distributed on Tuesday.

South Korea needs such systems to assume top responsibility for intelligence-gathering from the U.S.-led Combined Forces Command as scheduled in 2015, the security agency said in releasing a notice to U.S. lawmakers.

"The proposed sale of the RQ-4 will maintain adequate intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities and will ensure the alliance is able to monitor and deter regional threats in 2015 and beyond," the notice said.

The United States has agreed with Seoul to turn over the wartime command of Korean troops later this decade. Current arrangements grew from the U.S. role in the 1950-1953 Korean War that repelled a North Korean takeover of the South.

Seoul has shown interest in the high-altitude, long-endurance Global Hawk platform for at least four years. The system, akin to Lockheed Martin Corp's U-2 spy plane, may be optimized to scan large areas for stationary and moving targets by day or night and despite cloud cover.

It transmits imagery and other data from 60,000 feet at near real-time speed, using electro-optical, infrared and radar-imaging sensors built by Raytheon Co.

The possible sale has been held up by discussions involving price, aircraft configuration and a go-slow on release of such technology subject to a voluntary 34-nation arms control pact.

The Defense Department began informally consulting Congress on the possible Global Hawk sale in the summer of 2011, only to withdraw it pending further work on the make-up of the proposed export to Seoul amid lawmakers' arms-control concerns.

The formal notification to Congress came less than two weeks after a North Korean space launch of a satellite atop a multi-stage rocket, a first for the reclusive state, widely seen as advancing its ballistic missile program.

A White House statement denounced the December 12 launch as a "highly provocative act" that would bear consequences for violations of United Nations resolutions. The North is banned from testing missile or nuclear technology under international sanctions imposed after its 2006 and 2009 nuclear weapons tests.

In October 2008, then-U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates told reporters that the United States was "very sympathetic" to South Korea's interest in Global Hawk. But he cited issues that had to be overcome because of the so-called Missile Technology Control Regime, or MTCR.

The pact, established in 1987, has been credited with slowing the spread of ballistic missiles and other unmanned delivery systems that potentially could be used for chemical, biological and nuclear attacks.

Pact members, including the United States, agree to curb their exports of systems capable of carrying a 500-kilogram (1,102-pound) payload at least 300 kilometers (186 miles). The Global Hawk falls under a strong presumption against export under MTCR guidelines.

The notification to Congress did not mention that a U.S. government waiver for such an export would be required.

Arms-control advocates fear that this could fuel instability and stir regional arms-race dynamics as well as provide diplomatic cover for an expansion of such exports by Russia, China and others.

The Obama administration agreed earlier this year to let South Korea, a treaty ally, stretch the range of its ballistic missile systems to cover all of North Korea, going beyond the voluntary pact's 300 km (186 miles).

The congressional notification is required by U.S. law and does not mean that a deal has been concluded.

If a sale takes place, it would be for the third generation of Global Hawk drones known as Block 30, the security agency's notice to Congress said.

The Pentagon, in its fiscal 2013 budget request, proposed mothballing its own Block 30 Global Hawks and ending plans to buy more of that generation. Doing so would have no effect on the administration's plans to acquire other versions of the long-range drone.

South Korea's possible Global Hawk purchase would mark the system's first sale in the Asia-Pacific region. It has already been sold to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Australia, Japan and Singapore each have shown interest in buying Global Hawk systems, Northrop Grumman officials have said. Company representatives had no comment on the Christmas holiday on the proposed sale to Seoul.

24/7 Wall St. :

With the president and Congress attempting to reach a budget deal in an effort to avoid the fiscal cliff, it is likely they will agree on spending cuts, including those to entitlement programs. If they do not reach a deal in time, the nation may stumble into another recession triggered by the automatic austerity measures related to the fiscal cliff. Either way, there is almost no doubt that social programs and other spending will be cut in some way. The latest offer on the table includes the elimination of unemployment insurance for hundreds of thousands of Americans, as well as longer-term reductions in Social Security.

(AP) ? People drawn to Newtown to share in its mourning brought cards and handmade snowflakes to town Monday while residents prepared to observe Christmas less than two weeks after a gunman killed 20 children and six educators at an elementary school.

On Christmas Eve, residents planned to light luminaries outside their homes in memory of the victims. Tiny empty Christmas stockings with the victims' names on them hung from trees in the neighborhood where the children were shot.

"We know that they'll feel loved. They'll feel that somebody actually cares," said Treyvon Smalls, a 15-year-old from a few towns away who arrived at town hall with hundreds of cards and paper snowflakes collected from around the state. Organizers said they wanted to let the families of victims know they are not alone while also giving Connecticut children a chance to express their feelings about the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Police say 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother in her bed before his Dec. 14 rampage and committed suicide as he heard officers arriving. Authorities have yet to give a theory about his motive.

While the grief is still fresh, some residents are urging political activism in the wake of the tragedy. A grassroots group called Newtown United has been meeting at the library to talk about issues ranging from gun control, to increasing mental health services to the types of memorials that could be erected for the victims. Some clergy members have said they also intend to push for change.

"We seek not to be the town of tragedy," said Rabbi Shaul Praver of Congregation Adath Israel. "But, we seek to be the town where all the great changes started."

Since the shooting, messages similar to the ones delivered Monday have arrived from around the world. People have donated toys, books, money and more. A United Way fund, one of many, has collected $3 million. People have given nearly $500,000 to a memorial scholarship fund at the University of Connecticut. On Christmas Day, police from other towns have agreed to work so Newtown officers can have the time off.

In the center of Newtown's Sandy Hook section Monday, a steady stream of residents and out-of-towners snapped pictures, lit candles and dropped off children's gifts at an expansive memorial filled with stuffed animals, poems, flowers, posters and cards.

"All the families who lost those little kids, Christmas will never be the same," said Philippe Poncet, a Newtown resident originally from France. "Everybody across the world is trying to share the tragedy with our community here."

Richard Scinto, a deacon at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, which was attended by eight children killed in the massacre, said the church's pastor, Rev. Robert Weiss, used several eulogies this week to tell his congregation to get angry and take action against what some consider is a culture of gun violence in the country.

Praver and Scinto said they are not opposed to hunting or to having police in schools, but both said something must be done to change what has become a culture of violence in the United States.

"These were his mother's guns," Scinto said. "Why would anyone want an assault rifle as part of a private citizen collection?"

A mediator who worked with Adam Lanza's parents during their divorce has said Lanza was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, an autism-like disorder that is not associated with violence. It is not known whether he had other mental health issues. The guns used in the shooting had been purchased legally by his mother, Nancy Lanza, a gun enthusiast.

Gun control and mental health have also been topics at Newtown United meetings, along with what types of memorials would be most appropriate and any other action residents can take to feel like they are doing something.

"We don't want Newtown to go on the list with Columbine, Tucson and Virginia Tech and only have it associated with horrible acts," said Lee Shull, who moderated a Newton United meeting just days after the shootings. "We want to turn this into something positive. What can we do?"

A handful of people showed up to the group's first meeting at the town library two days after the Dec. 14 shooting. The next night, 35 attended, most scrawling ideas and notes on white paper covering the tables. A few days later there was barely room to maneuver around the meeting room when two guests showed up: Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Sen.-elect Chris Murphy, Connecticut Democrats who told the group they planned to push for gun control legislation and needed their constituents to help them press the issue in Washington.

The group sees itself as a way to spark a local and national dialogue and action in the aftermath of a tragedy. It's also a way to do something, anything, to cope with the sadness that has settled over Newtown.

Said resident John Neuhall: "Our hearts are broken wide open and we're here out of grief and out of love for those families."
