Extra-Curricular Activities: Other Sports Activities - Rock Climbing ...

Hello! I see you're new here. Welcome to Babylicious! You might like to subscribe to my newsletter to get regular updates on what's new at Babylicious. You will also receive free right brain educational resources available only to email subscribers. Thanks for visiting!

A couple of other activities I had been keen for Gavin to try over his school break were rock climbing and martial arts. Unfortunately, we didn?t get around to it either, but here are the other contacts if you?re interested?

Rock Climbing

There are two that I looked at:

If you know how to climb, it is a simple matter of turning up at either of these places and teaching your child to climb. However, if you are interested in classes for kids, here are the details?

Camp5

Children have to be between 8 and 14 years old to attend the Camp5 Cicak club climbing classes. Classes are held once a week but you get to choose between two scheduled classes for convenience. Each class runs for a duration of 1.5 hours. It costs RM100 to join (you get a free chalk bag or t-shirt) and between RM38.40 ? RM60 per class depending on membership status and how many classes you sign up for in advance.

If you aren?t doing classes, then children below 8 climb for free. All children under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. The entry fee is RM12 for children and RM28 for the accompanying adult (unless you?re a member or you purchase the 10 pass entry).

Location: EZ501 (Entertainment Zone), Level 5, 1 Utama Shopping Centre 1 Lebuh Bandar Utama, 47800 Petaling Jaya, Bandar Utama

Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 2-11pm; Weekends (and Public Holidays) 10am-8pm

MadMonkeyz

MadMonkeyz is a rock climbing bouldering gym so they don?t teach vertical climbing. It?s good for initial exposure to rock climbing but if you want to teach your child the safety basics of harnesses, ropes and knots, you would still have to go to Camp5. On the flip side, MadMonkeyz offers climbing classes for children as young as 5 years old.

These are the details of their basic class:

Pre- class is designed to offer a fun non-instructional climbing experience. In this class, we will teach safe climbing, provide supervision, support and allow kids to participate in interesting climbing games. It is recommended that an older sibling or adult accompanies kids below 8 years of age. If unaccompanied a parents or guardian must remain in the vicinity of the facility throughout the duration of the program.

Martial Arts

Xtreme Martial Arts

I heard about them from the staff at Monster Tennis. What appealed to me was that they offered lessons by class. It is not unlike an aerobics class schedule. They offer Taekwondo and Kick Boxing for children and adults from beginner to advance. I don?t know much else about them because I could never seem to reach them on the telephone. The easiest might be to simply rock up to their school and speak to them directly.
