Power outages in Southeast Michigan have left 110,000 DTE Energy customers without electricity as of noon Sunday due to high winds.
More than 120,000 lost power overnight, when the region saw winds of 60 mph. DTE had restored power to 10,000.
According to CBS Detroit, it's not clear when service will be completely restored because of the danger for the linemen who climb the polls.
?It?s really incredible being up 20-30 feet in the air with these kinds of wind and the cold temperatures,? DTE Energy spokesman Scott Simon told the news site. ?it?s a brutal job, and these guys are the unsung heroes of the restoration effort.?
Many of the outages are located in Livingston, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties, but homes and businesses are affected all the way north to the Thumb region. According to DTE, up to 20 percent of the area?s residents and customers were affected.
The National Weather Service reports winds of 15 to 21 mph Sunday afternoon, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
