Serena Williams: 'I've never liked sports'

Serena Williams has won nearly $35 million in prize money on the tennis court, but doesn't sound all that happy about it.

The 13-time winner of grand slams singles titles is tuning up for the Australian Open this week at the Brisbane International and told reporters there she wasn't all that thrilled about her career.

"I don't love tennis today but I am here - I can't live without it so I am still here," Williams said.

She added that:

"It was never that I have fallen out of love with it - I have actually never liked sports. I have never understood how I became an athlete - I don't like working out."

As for her real talents, Williams said: "Anything that involves sitting down or shopping I am excellent at that."

Serena also said she'll scale back her competition schedule this season, in hopes of avoiding burnout.

"I just want to be able to do other things I am doing and expand on that - I think that will help keep my motivation up," Williams said. "I have always been preparing myself for life after tennis."
