Sunday school picnic

St. Jacob's (Stone) UCC, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, will hold its Sunday school picnic and family style roast beef dinner at 3 p.m. today in the picnic grove.

Gospel concert

Candlelight at Christ Church

'Candlelight at Christ Church: Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital' which will continue 8 p.m. each Saturday through Aug. 31 at Christ Lutheran Church on Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg.

Features live music, poetry of Walt Whitman, sing alongs and readings from the diaries of Civil War nurses and Sgt. Stearn. The program will be held in the nave of the air conditioned church.

Vacation Bible School

Zwingli United Church of Christ, 403 West King St., East Berlin, will hold its Community Vacation Bible School Monday through Thursday. This year's theme is "Kingdom Rock" and will run from 6 to 8:30 each evening.

Christ's American Baptist Church VBS

Chalk artist performing

Grace summer camp

Grace United Methodist Preschool, 55 Albright Drive, Hanover, has openings in its summer preschool camp.

Art Crazy will be held July 22 to 26; Music Mayhem will be held July 29 to Aug. 2; Puppets will be held Aug. 5 to 9; and Dinosaurs will be held Aug. 19 to 23.

Dutch Festival flea market

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, will hold an indoor flea market on Hanover's Dutch Day Festival, Saturday, July 27. Doors open at 7 a.m.

All proceeds will support Lantern Hill Mission in Mexico and the mission team from St. Matthew going there in August. A variety of items including toys, glassware, lamps, books and household items are available. Free bottles of cold water will be available. Enter by the rear door near the parking lot.

Inter-generational summer class

Calvary Bible VBS

Through every twist, turn and dive, Colossal Coaster World will challenge kids to face their fears and trust God. Registration begins at 6 each night.

Teens and adults will hear Dave Bogue who has spent more than 30 years in full-time vocational Christian service. He is currently the senior pastor of the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio. Adults and teens meet in the church sanctuary from 7 to 8:30 each evening.

Summer Camps

Zwingli's "Best Of" Summer Enrichment Series is offered to children ages 4 to 6 this summer at Zwingli Christian School, 403 West King St., East Berlin. "Kids in the Kitchen" will run 9 a.m. to noon July 29-Aug. 1.

Idaville United Brethren VBS

Children ages 3 through grade 6 will step back in time at "Athens: Paul's Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth," Idaville United Brethren Church's Vacation Bible School, 3590 Carlisle Road, Gardners, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 29 to Aug. 2. Children will participate in Bible-times marketplace, sing songs, visit Paul and play arena games for fun-Olympic training.

The Environment: Good News and Creative Possibilities

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover, is sponsoring a series of speakers and discussions focusing on encouraging news about the environment. Speakers will discuss things the average person living in this area can do to nurture the environment. Some ideas will be familiar, others are new possibilities. These events are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month through the end of the year and are open to the community.

On Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. in King Auditorium, Metta Barbour, a food availability task force volunteer, will lead a discussion on "Community Gardens." Her organization is working to improve access to fresh produce in York County.

On Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. in Emmanuel's Bowers Chapel, Sally Smith, who designed an interactive native plant garden for the residents at the Shrewsbury Lutheran Retirement Village, will present: "Going Native: What's Great About Native Plants."

Speakers for October, November and December are being scheduled.

Penn Grove church camp

Wolfe in concert

John A. Wolfe will present a concert of sacred music commemorating the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg.

John A. Wolfe is a New York City-based organist, choral conductor and music educator.

The performance will feature congregational hymn singing as well as solo pipe organ compositions by Johann Pachebel, Nicolas de Grigny, Louis Vierne and Johann Sebastian Bach.

A freewill offering will benefit the church's Organ Completion Fund.

Peach festival

St. Johns Lutheran Church, 665 St Johns Rd., Littlestown, will have its 16th annual peach festival 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

Revelation Part 3: Precept Bible Study

Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave., Hanover, invites men, women, couples and teens to attend its "Precept Upon Precept Bible Study, Revelation Part 3: What is the Sign of His Coming and of the End of the Age, (Chapters 5-22)." Explore the relationship of the book of Revelation to the Gospels and realize the prophecies and teachings they contain about the last days.

The shop will take tax deductible donations from anyone in the community. They sell gently worn clothing and household items in good working condition.
