Thedress code for Zambia is very important so you should at least take some tips below regarding acceptable types of clothing particularly when out in public. Casual, comfortable clothes are best when travelling in Zambia dress code is pretty conservative but you can be more relaxed in the evenings.

For Men- Zambian men are most often seen in western-style clothing, especially the younger crowd.Nice slacks and button down shirts. Suits may be required in some industries, but are usually reserved for formal events. Men should refrain from walking the streets bare-chested, as men going around half-naked are mostly thought mentally disturbed.

For Women- Many Zambian women wear traditional chitenje suits.For foreigners, a formal blouse (no shoulders exposed) and skirt or slacks which cover the knees is the way to go. As a rule of thumb conservative attire is appropriate in most situations.

Jeans and less causal attire(shorts especially) are not appropriate for business situations.

Clean well pressed clothing is very important.If someone is under dressed or dressed like a slob it could change the way they are perceived. Keep in mind that you will get treated by locals based on how you dress.

Another point that you need to keep in mind is that in Zambia just like many parts of Africa people generally dress as well as they can afford to as it is a status symbol. In most places, the only locals you?ll find wearing shorts are the children and the really poor. If that?s how you want to be treated (by the people not trying to sell you something) its up to you. In conclusion you should remember that in a formal workplace environment, for women trousers are ok but should be a bit loose or have a long/loose shirt. Skirts below the knee. No tank tops or similar.
